WELCOME
Welcome to my website. I offer individual lessons via the Zoom platform from Monday to Friday. In the morning between 9am and 12pm, while in the evening between 5pm and 8pm. The advantages of my online one-to-one lessons outweigh those of a presence course or individual face-to-face training: you learn independently of location, it saves time and you make noticeably faster progress.
On this website I answer the essential questions, you can send me further concerns via the enquiry form or simply give me a call.

Who am I?
My name is Mario Schembri, I am 49 years old, originally from Sicily and have lived in Germany for over 35 years. I am self-employed and have been teaching German as a foreign language for several years.
I mainly work as a freelancer with language schools and currently give intensive language training to delegates and specialists from the corporations and large companies based here in my area, such as BASF or AbbVie in Ludwigshafen. Outside of this work, I maintain this project.
I am constantly grappling with the structure and sound of German. There is inevitably a beneficial interaction between my own research and the direct explanation: I always gather a wide range of experience and discover many tricks and parallels to the respective mother tongues, which I then make use of in my lessons.
Who are my classes suitable for?
My German lessons are aimed at adults who do not come from a German-speaking country and whose concern is to acquire the language quickly and in a structured way or to extend what they have already acquired through individual tuition support.
They either want to hone the language skills they have acquired or gain a thoroughly conducive foundation for further language acquisition.
Are you perhaps an entrepreneur and looking for a time-saving and effective way to teach your employees? Or do you work for a German company yourself and need the language in your daily professional life?
In summary, my lessons are aimed at all those who would like to be able to cope with both professional and private everyday life in a linguistically competent manner and thus recognise the indispensability of the language for themselves and are willing to learn the language.

Self-explanatory, online learning is practical: you can simply attend classes regardless of location.
Learning in familiar surroundings is quite pleasant.
They can attend classes from home or their workplace with just a few clicks.

They determine the learning pace and intensity of the lessons according to their personality.
I can immediately and individually fine-tune their pronunciation or point out grammatical errors.
These are conducive conditions for rapid progress.
Time-saving
No annoying packing and unpacking of the textbook and no weekly trips back and forth to the German course.
You can always schedule lessons to the minute in your daily schedule and then also continue punctually with the next daily task.

How do we connect?
A computer with webcam and audio as well as a stable internet connection are of course a prerequisite. You first download the Zoom application free of charge. Once you have installed it, simply enter my ID number and we are connected. It's best to take a look at this short explanation.
Reasoned
The structure of German is particularly logical.
I make use of this to give good reasons for the behaviour of the sentence elements in the sentence structure or to establish rules.
A grammar or pronunciation rule that is well founded is also easier to remember.
Precise
Thanks to its word-forming power, German can describe actions, processes and conditions with remarkable precision.
Spending time in this language area increasingly shapes my teaching.
This language characteristic always encourages me to explain grammatical processes as comprehensibly as possible.
tangible
I often like to use tables in class.
A table is an excellent tool to illustrate inflection. It summarises the individual inflections in fixed outlines and visually organises them.
This makes it easier to understand and creates structure in the language skills.
What levels do I teach?
The content of my lessons follows the structure of the Common European Framework. However, I teach online only the levels A1 – B2. At level B2, you can cope well with the vast majority of everyday situations.
On the basis of a language test that we conduct at the first, non-binding session, we can determine which language level is suitable for you. If you have never had German lessons before, we should choose a level at the basic level.
It is possible, because of your already acquired language skills, that you will solve some of the tasks in the test easily, but my lessons are also about structuring your language skills grammatically to create a conducive foundation on which you can build further.
The teaching language can be basic English, Italian or your already acquired German.
How much do the lessons cost?
One lesson (60 min.) costs € 40. We should hold at least two sessions a week so that you experience noticeable progress. Of course, depending on how quickly you want to progress, we can also hold a lesson every day.
Included in the price is access to my password-protected Lernraum and you don't have to pay for the first session. In the Lernraum you can download useful tables, you will also find a number of selected links and the possibility to practise with flashcards.
However, the first session is mainly about getting to know each other, establishing your language skills with a test and checking whether there is a stable video and audio transmission.
The textbooks for each level cost 28 € and are not included in the price, they have to be ordered and purchased independently.
Quizlet
To consolidate vocabulary in long-term memory, practicing with flashcards is an effective method.
On the Quizlet platform are my flashcards, so you can also practice with your smartphone or tablet.
You can use it to practice vocabulary (en/de), conjugation of strong verbs, or declension of different companions and attributes.
Lernraum
In the Lernraum you will find a compilation to encourage you to experience the language culturally as well.
I have linked public television, some radio stations on the subject of culture and the most important national newspapers.
You will also find links to free podcasts, recommended reading, learning materials, and online dictionaries.
Teaching
We use two books at each level: one you work on independently to expand your vocabulary, the other we use in class.
During the lessons, the focus is not only on grammar, but also on your pronunciation and sentence melody.
Every now and then, language training is also useful to practise speaking freely and expressing oneself.
When do I teach online?
This is the current time overview of my online sessions. You can use it to check whether your preferred learning hours are free or which will soon become free again. You can then inform me of this learning time when you make your enquiry, so that I can possibly reserve these hours for you.
